Ladies and Gentleliches!

A new surprise for you this week; A battle report from Fuzzmans and my game last night. It was the Eldar fighting to keep their outpost on an ice-world from the invading forces of the Imperiums mighty Space Marines. Please excuse any errors, I wrote this when I got back last night, and I was mighty tired.

Turn 1, Don.

3 Drop pods arrived around front of my force, holding two dreadnoughts and a squad of marines that split in two. The marine squads opened fire, killing my harlequins before they could do anything. Shooting at the Reapers, however, got Don nowhere.

Turn 1, Matt.

Disembarked the Fire Dragons in front of the far right Dreadnought.

Bladestormed (whoops) the marines, and Reaper fire trimmed their numbers further. Fire Dragons immobilised and wrecked all the weapons on the Dreadnought they were nearest to, leaving it to fume as it sat there. Their transport fired a Krak missile at the other Dreadnought, leaving it shaken for a turn.

Turn 2, Don.

Two landspeeders dropped in thanks to the homing beacons on the drop pods.

Dons shots were aimed at the Dire Avengers this time, killing a large number of them, but neither squad ran. Everything else was stunned, immobilised, or had only just arrived, so nothing much happened here.

Turn 2, Matt.

Both of my reserves ( the Scorpions and the Warwalkers ) arrived, far too early for the scorpions to be useful, although the walkers were able to remove the arms of the still dangerous dreadnought. The Fire Dragons re-embarked, and the Wave Serpent moved them towards the middle of the board, taking a pot-shot at one of the speeders, immobilising it. The majority of my force was left to target the land speeders, as their weapons could do nothing against the armour of both the drop pods and the dreadnoughts. However, to tie the still mobile dreadnought up for a turn or two, I charged a squad of Dire Avengers into it. This came back to haunt me next turn, and for my troubles I lost an Avenger.

Turn 3, Don.

Another two Drop pods arrived, as did the scouts, and the other land speeder. One pod had the librarian in it, which was a worry for me. The other disgorged a large squad of marines which immediately proceeded to team up with the scouts against the beleaguered Scorpions and War walkers. The land speeder landed where my Dire Avengers had been standing before they charged the dreadnought, in a nearly perfect spot for shooting my reapers. Thankfully, my farseer had been keeping up with Fortune each turn, so most of the failed saves got re-rolled into successes. The Dire Avengers decided to break and run away this turn, and the dreadnought consolidated 6” after them, preventing them from being able to regroup during my turn. The scouts slaughtered the flat-footed Scorpions, and one of the walkers was stunned.

Turn 3, Matt.

The Fire Dragons disembarked and, along with the remaining Reapers on that flank, managed to reduce the Librarians squad down to the Librarian himself. The two surviving Avengers charged the other squad to have left the latest Drop pod, killing one, and losing one in return. The walkers moved and had a round of shooting at the scouts and marines that were harassing them, killing around four of them.

Turn 4, Don.

The final Speeder turned up, the Librarian killed the Fire Dragons, the War Walkers got caught n assault, loosing one of their number in the process, The remaining Dire Avenger Exarch did nothing and got killed for his troubles, the Dreadnought killed the farseer and the Dark Reapers he was with in close combat, and the Drop pods weren't far off killing the other Reaper squad.

We finished there, as it was getting late, and I was as good as dead by that point anyway. All of my remaining units were locked up with opponents they couldn't beat, or were so numerous as to weigh them down by sheer numbers. I have already planning a better force for taking on the POD (Pods Of Doom™ ) and this time I have it written down ahead of time. Now, if only I can get my dice to work for me...

Warmachine & Hordes League rules

Hello Everyone The Warmachine/ Hordes league will soon be under way. To sign up, please see the signup thread at the BWG forum here( http://s15.zetaboards.com/BWGFORUM/topic/6816076/1/ )

From a fluff perspective, the league is set Post Legends and Metamorphosis, although for the later, just barely.

Rules

You must stay with one faction throughout the entire league. Mercenary players, you must stick to one contract.
The league will operate under an escalating point cost value, the first half of the league, will be conducted at the 25pt level. The second half the league will be conducted at a 35 point level. As a side note, at least for now. Till I do more research on the matter, themed lists will be allowed in the first half, and then reviewe jsut to make sure the themed lists are acceptable.

For those that have not played in the 40k League. The way you decide opposition is simply thus. You challenge and opponent to a game,Speak to whomever is doing the recording. it is then recorded,the game played, the result recorded post game. And you cannot play the same opponent till you have played every other player in the league. At which point we have reached the second half. Each game has a six turn time limit. Although this should be self regulating due to the scenarios.

3pts For a Win.
1pt For a Draw
0pt For a Loss

Before the game, the lowest player on the league table, will get to roll a D10 deciding the scenario The five of the scenario's are listed in the rulebook. I will have paper copies, but shan't be posting them online, due to copyright law etc etc.

Each list must be decided BEFORE scenario choosing, And submitted for checking, a note about points value, while some allowance is sometimes given for going over the top limit. This will not be allowed. The 25pts/35pts Maximum for each game will be the maximum, either meet the dot, or go under.

Before the game begins you have to make your opponent aware what your Warcaster choice, and how many jack points they have available to the.

All games are deployed as per scenario rules. All games are to be played on a 4'x4' board. Make sure to declare exactly what all terrain is, and moving terrain to suit a scenario is not allowed. Eg if you are playing Mosh pit, and there happens to be a village in the center of the table. Then you play around that village.

Also, you need to have all paraphenailia that relates your game. E.g. templates, tokens, dice, tape measure. I will be picky about these things. Please follow the movement rules correctly as many of the scenarios are based that fact. Also if you feel your opponent is doing something wrong. Feel to call attention to the fact and consult the rulebook, if no solution is found, consult a rules guru.

Hey guys, long time no post.

We're all looking forward to the trip to Birmingham on the 5th of next month, however it does mean that there will be no normal club on that date, so if you aren't going to the Expo (and if not, why not?) then you'd best look for some other way to fill your gaming needs (I hear McThralls are having a sale on cy-burgers. Amazing what you can do with Mechanicows).

In slightly less happy news, The scouts have had a lot of bits go missing out of the back room over the last two weeks, and while I''m sure it's not anyone who goes to BWG, We're going to be implementing a new rule.

Only Committee members are allowed in the back room. This will also go for the fact that our stuff is now going to be stored in there. However, we do have permission to put doors on the cupboards, so I'll be looking into getting that sorted ASAP.

Addendum for the new decade:

10 commandments by the order of the holy hand grenade of Antioch.

1. Thou shalt pay whenst thou playeth.

English: We ask for the not-so-princely sum of £3 per evening. If it's your first or second evening at the club, don't worry, it's on us, otherwise the rule is "no pay, no play"

2. Thou shalt respect thy gaming club property.

English: All scenery and gaming boards have been produced for you; in return all we ask is that you treat the provided items as if they were your own. If by chance you happen to mistreat your own things, then do not treat ours this way. Otherwise our very own dracolich will eat you(we keep him out the back, he's called George).

3. Thou shalt adhere to the opening times.

English: We are open from 3pm to 10.30pm please ensure that you allow enough time to clear away all tables and boards before this time. After this time your handsome management team will all turn into ugly ogres much like poor Cinderella and you do not want to see that.

4. Thou shall not make a mess.

English: Mess is not required, any mess you make you are responsible for clearing up and throwing away. The building must be left exactly how we found it, no exceptions! For a long time there has been a black bag provided, however this is not going to be around for much longer. As we said, everyone needs to get into the habit of taking their own rubbish home with them.

5. Thou shalt not be too beardy.

English: Beards are ugly, full stop. On a club-related note, although we can understand the joy of crushing your opponent under-foot, don't try and play in such a way that either of you stops enjoying the game. That "Ultimate Uber Ultra Force of Deadly Doom"(TM) may defeat everyone in two turns, but if you can't be beaten, people simply won't bother playing you.

6. Thou shalt not interfere.

English: Quite simple really, if you want to watch then watch, do not help or hinder in any way. By all means gasp in amazement as well laid plans go drastically wrong or cheer if the underdog smites his foe. But do not interfere.

7. Thine possessions are thine own problem.

English: Any possessions of yours are your responsibility, be it cases, models, or personal effects. If you damage or lose something the club accepts no responsibility.

8. Thou shalt not steal.

English: Theft will not be tolerated in the slightest! In any sense of the meaning! If you are caught stealing you will be immediately ejected, never to return. Like the Yeti in Monster’s Inc.

9. Thou shalt behave.

English: It is a fun place, and will encourage you to have fun at all times, however there is a “line” and persistent swearing, racism, sexism, ageism or bullying will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly with the appropriate punishment administered.

10. Thou shalt have FUN!

This is for you! You may feel that the rules are harsh for a gaming club, but they are there for one reason only, and that is to achieve our primary objective………

Yes, I'm back, and with apologies and good tidings both.

It's hard to find stuff to write about on occasion, so I apologize for not writing a new post sooner. I need to know if anyone is still reading this, so there will be a quiz at the end of the post.

I apologize for not turning up on the last meet, but it's somewhat difficult when the roads were as bad as they have been, especially on a bike. I hope those of you who did manage to make it had a good time, and I hope to see you all in the new year. The first meet of the new year will be on the 2nd, but if people don't want to turn up to this one, I fully understand.

There is also going to be a small painting competition, with prizes for first and second place. The theme is, obviously given the time of year, christmas. Judging and prizes will be awarded on the 18th January meet. C'mon, show us your christmas spirit!

OK, whoops. We ran around trying to get people interested in going, but unfortunately kept getting the same answer. Basically we left it too late and so have decided not to go this year. Sorry especially to Hads, who made arrangements to make sure he could go, and the same to anyone else in a similar situation. There is a plan in place to try and make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again. It's called Start Organizing a Darned Site Sooner Next Time (TM).

It appears that we probably won't be doing much in the way of going to events this year, but we hope to do as many as possible next year, so stay tuned!(or however you want to do it on the intarwebz)

This is just a short note to let you all know that we're now taking note of anyone who wants to go to Games Day on the 27th of this month. Pop over to the News section of the forum to let us know if you're interested.

For those of you who don't know, Games Day is Games Workshops' premier event, and the home of the Golden Demon painting competition. This year has a bent towards the creative side of the business, with discussions and speeches being given by many artists, modellers, and even the author of the soon to be released Codex: Space Wolves. I'm quite annoyed because I won't be there so you'd all better have a good time there for me, ya hear?

Welcome to a quick update on all things BWG-like!

Apologies about my last post, I later found out from the abominable Fuzzman that he wanted to keep the tourney to only a small number of people. Note that player numbers are to be drawn tonight, so those of you entering, kindly be sure to check the forum to find out who you're facing, if you can't make it today.

Those of you who visit the forum might have noticed a couple of new sections go up recently. Firstly, Magic:the Gathering has suddenly gained quite the following at the club, so if you feel like a game, bring your deck along.

Secondly, we have set up an area that has a list of gaming conventions and expos thoughout the year that we may be going to, should we get enough people interested. The list is still pretty bare at the moment, so let us know of any cons and expos you know about.

Daemonettes and Gentleliches (Lichii? Leech?) Welcome to another of these oh-so-often blogs. Your humble server of news tonight is none other than I, the wraith of webs, himself.

Sad news, as Shadow Dragon is temporarily stepping down as the "opens-the-door" guy, and I get that wonderful role.

On the plus side, however, we did have a rather awesome finish to the Zergev campaign, with the forces of Order and Chaos finally facing one another in an almighty Apocalypse game. The game reached fever pitch, as the plans of Chaos were finally revealed, and the mighty Tauran was unleashed upon the material realm once more, followed by a chattering horde of lesser demon spawn. However, the forces of the Imperium held their ground, despite their ace-in-the-hole Hellhammer being stuck behind a giant rock pillar for most of the game, only to be charged by a Brass Scorpion. The forces of disorder weren't lacking in firepower either, as their Warhound titan proved to devastating effect, when it annihilated two squads in as many shots. That'll teach the Imperial Guard to intermingle with heathen Tau. Special mention also goes to the Vindicator, which lived up to its name, and brutally sniped a lone marine with its main cannon, just to clear the charge lane of the Scorpion.

Once the dust settled, and with the sounds of battle still ringing in their ears, the game came to a close; unbelievably, a draw.

In other news, we will be holding a 40k tournament in two meets time, log onto the forum, and post in the thread if you're interested. If you want to just turn up on the night, that's fine too, we just like to have some idea of who's going to turn up.

I know it's late, but we spoke to Stealthy Spider at last years Ludicrus about their game Occult Wars, and they were kind enough to star in a small video;

Tomb of the Beast 18th July 2009

The Club's wh40k campaign reaches its finale tomorrow, and its ending on a blast. A full on Apocalypse battle - but held underground in a massive cave complex. Can the Forces of Order turn their successes into a Major Victory - or has the Legion of Taurus tempted them into an elaborate trap?

If you like the sound of Warhound Titans, seismic charges, legendary heroes and dastardly villians, tides of Spawn and general carnage and chaos then this is an event to witness!

Set up is from 2pm, with the battle starting at 5pm til 9pm. Why not pop in and see how its going?

Finally, forces of Disorder reach the heart of the space hulk, to be confronted by the daemonic entity controlling the ship. Despite tentacles dragging some troopers into the Warp, Chaos held on long enough to claim the ship. Does this mean the blast cannons of the ship will now be available to assist WH40K battles in the rest of the campaign? click to see big beastie

Thrall Harvest.

The Thrall Harvest was a great success, with over 200 cans being donated to a local charity. Well done to everyone who took part and helped run the event. Hopefully some pics will follow soon.

First place prize went to EldarVeteran, with his Karchev led Khador force. He is the proud owner of a new hardback Hordes Metamorphosis book - expect to see some new Trollbloods soon.

Okay peoples, I'mma throw out the call here for Y'all to step up to the plate.

On February 28th Bury Wargamers will be having its first Thrall Harvest. This will be a five hundred point Hordes and Warmachine, tournament, in guts and gears format, conducted under steamroller 4.0 Rules. Now that sounds a little wordy and complicated. And later today I will be making a post on the forum listing what all of these things mean in detail. Also a more detailed blog post will be coming in the coming weeks.

But basically, those who went to ludicrus know steamroller 4.0, its actually posted up in that thread if you wanna hunt it down.

Guts and Gears, is not to dissimilar from mangled metal. But instead allows to bring only ONE solo and ONE unit, the rest of your force must be warjacks/beasts and warcasters/locks.

Now again you may ask. What is Thrall Harvest, and why now. Well I'll hit the second, first. Bury Wargamers was Uber busy in the actual harvest time, and January See's the start of Xergev(which will be taking a break for this.) So it was decided that February would be a better time, since its a general quiet month.

Now Thrall Harvest is this(taken from http://harvest.gamestlouis.com/rules.php ) Is basically what we're gonna be doing.

At any point during a game, a player may donate a canned good to create an in-game effect. These canned goods are in additional to any canned goods that were donated for the registration fee, so be certain to being plenty of canned goods so you can break plenty of rules. The following are the in-game effects that are generated by extra donations.

You may donate a canned good to:

Re-roll 1 of your dice. Each subsequent time you break this rule, whether for it's for the same die or a different die, the cost to break this rule doubles. For example the 1st re-roll=1 can, 2nd re-roll=2 cans, 3rd re-roll=4 cans, 4th re-roll=8 cans. The cost resets back to 1 can at the start of your next turn.
Force your opponent to re-roll 1 of his/her dice. Each subsequent time you break this rule, whether for it's for the same die or a different die, the cost to break this rule doubles. See Rule #1 for an example. The cost resets back to 1 can at the start of your opponent's next turn.
Give your warcaster/warlock an extra focus/fury point. You may only break this rule once per round. This may be in excess of their focus/fury stat, but does not change the stat itself. Your warcaster/warlock receives this focus even if other effects do not normally allow him focus/fury points, such as Severius' feat or Eiryss' disruptor bolt.
Remove 1 fury from a warbeast. This fury does not go to your warlock, it simply disappears. You may only break this rule once per round.
Measure the distance between any 2 models on the board at any time.

You may donate 3 cans to:

Generate 1 power attack that is not a charge without the usual penalties of "-2 for a smaller/equal sized target, -4 for a larger target". It does not cost a focus/fury to perform the power attack. Each subsequent time you break this rule, the cost to break this rule doubles. See Rule #1 for an example. The cost resets back to 3 cans at the start of your next turn.
Have a warjack with 2 open fists perform a Rend power attack. See Hordes: Primal for the ruling on "Rend".
Move a single terrain piece 5" in any direction before the game starts. Do this before seeing your opponents list. You may only break this rule once per game.

You may donate 10 cans to:

If you win the "who deploys first and goes first" roll, you may deploy second and go first. You may not use Rule #1 nor #2 to re-roll the "who deploys first and goes first" roll.
Force your opponent to make one of his advance deployment units non-advance deploy. You may only break this rule once per game. Decide this after seeing your opponent's list but before you roll for the "who deploys first and goes first" roll.

Nooooow what I'm also gonna do, instead of asking for a small entry fee, to cover prize support, your entry fee will be. One can. Also we will be accepting donations and our new Press Department(mostly consisting of me and Matt) Will be working to promote this to the larger area. I'm already gonna post details of this on the Privateer boards and the warmachine uk boards, and a couple of others too.

I'd like to see as big as possible turn out for this guys. Remember its not just about winning its about giving.

Although its been recently broached on the forum. Not everyone reads that. Runik Games has now opened in Bury St Edmunds. Next to boots, in what was formerly Jennifer's florist, oppoiste the cattle market. I'm totally exicted about this BWG and Bury having a LGS to go to, its awesomesauce. And I fully urge all of you to stop buy and see Symon and start picking things up from there. For us Warmachine and Hordes and Flames of war players. This is indeed awesome.

This is a narrative campaign, set against a backdrop of an Imperial task force (consisting of an alliance of several Space Marine Chapters, and the Inquisition plus their inducted Guard regiments) hunting down a war-mongering warband of traitorous, Chaos-worshipping Marines.

Here is a summary of the setting:

“For almost 1,000 years a force of rogue Space Marines, dubbed the Legion of Taurus, have plagued the Odothese Sector; raiding naval patrols and outposts, defiling holy temples, and inciting uprisings of Chaos cultists on several worlds.

The forces of the Imperium, led by the Inquisition, have finally traced these Traitors to a small, uninhabitable mining planet in a region of ungoverned space – Xergev’s Folly.

The Avenging Eagles Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes thought they had the element of surprise when they launched their attack – but they were walking in to a trap, and the Space Marines were almost entirely decimated. The forces of Chaos had lured them deliberately.

Now other Chapters are being drawn to the planet, as well as Imperial Guard regiments indentured by the Inquisition – all aiming to hunt down and crush the traitorous Marines and the followers of Chaos once and for all.

But the Legion of Taurus are expecting them.

And they have a plan...”

I'll just say a few things about the campaign:

although the narrative is focussed on Imperials v Chaos, ANY 40k army can take part.
the campaign will last for 4 fortnights (each fortnight making up a 'campaign phase'), and will culminate with an Apocalypse mega-battle.
at the beginning of every fortnight/campaign phase a list of scenarios will be given out, which are to be played by all participants.
at the end of each campaign phase the results of every battle will be added up, and which side has the advantage/upper hand will effect which scenarios are played in the next campaign phase.
each phase will have an additional twist to keep things interesting, e.g. from phase 3 players will be able to use an Apocalypse formation in their army, to reflect the escalating conflict.

I should also add that I'm working on a full Campaign Booklet, listing all of the scenarios, additional rules, and full background for the conflict on Xergev.

Also, I'm hoping to offer a couple of prizes and a conversion/painting competition, but there'll be more details of those in the Campaign Booklet.

I'm gonna be running the Steamroller 4.0 tourney for Warmachine/Hordes there. Its a great time to be had by all, and those who went last year had a great time and we're sure to have another one too.

Okay, first up. Some Announcement's

On September 20th it'll be the clubs second birthday, we have several events planned so far. Including a long opening time of nearly ten+ hours of gaming fun.
First up.

The long awaited return of duh.... duh.... duh....
Its all gone Starship Troopers: The event where you have a squad of Stormtroopers vs a squad of Genestealers. The person who manages to either survive the longest, or wipe out the Genestealers.

And two new events.

First Apocalypse: Eternal war(yes that's right people, Apocalypse hits BWG on the twentieth.)

The rules of which will be posted on the forum.

And the Primary Colours Painting Competition.

To paint a Mini, eligible for this competition, you may use only. Black, White Blood Red, Bad Moon Yellow or Ultramarine Blue. Or if your using PP Paints, Khador Base Red, Cygnar Base Highlight, and Cygnus Yellow. Your allowed to mix and shade these at will. But use ONLY these colours. Washes made from these colours are allowed, but no inks.

there will be two categories, Small to Medium based figure, and Large Figure. All entries must be turned it by 7:30 pm September 20th. You have from now till then to paint it. This is an honor system so we're trusting you, cheat and you'll be cheating yourself(not that i really expect anyone to) There will be prizes for first, second and third places. Anyone is eligible for entry.

Veterans Night Report

This Saturday saw another of our veteran nights, with some new games being tested. The Iron Kingdoms d20 system roleplay group got underway and had a fantastic time from what I could hear. Plenty of shouts of "watch out for that zombie" and "do you mind not shooting me in the back!". More details should be on the forum, but the mystery of why the supply station had ceased trading came out very clear. Well done to Gelfin for acting as DM and getting this going. Although I was only an observer it certainly took me back to the misty days of early edition Dungeons and Dragons.

Fifth edition Warhammer 40K also got tested, with the interesting combination of a Tau mechanised force versus a Daemonic incursion on an Annilation mission. The early surprise to the Tau of Bloodletters, a Bloodthirster, and other Deamon appearing in their midst gave way to brutal rounds of shooting and combat. Early lead by the Deamons was gradually eroded away, until the final turn of the game resulted in all the Deamons being banished back to the warp (although at a cost to the Tau). A very fun and close match, and the new rules worked very smoothly.

The 'LGC' (the Little Guys in the Corner aka our Flames of War players ;-) ) had switched from massed tank battles to massed infantry battles. Sadly I was too busy being shot by Tau to see what the result was!!

Finally, Hadley was very kind enough to run a demo game of Epic (Armageddon) so we could get a taster. I must say I was hooked by the easy game mechanics and rapid destruction of forces. The first game involved a (renegade?) Imperial Guard force versus Marines. Due to an almost suicidal final turn attack by Assault Marines - that actually turned into a rout of the Imperial infantry - the game ended in a draw, an excellent result for our first trial game.

Thats all folks - normal service resumes next week with a full Club meet.

Hey Guys.

Just to let y'all out there in internet land know, We are on for the 12th, 19th. and 26th of this month, and that'll be a regular club night, veterans night and a regular club night again. We're back rolling again after our summer break, and thanks to everyone who was fine about the break.

Rightho now onto other stuff, we're currently looking at running an rpg at the club, more than likey on veterans right(althought i'm sure those who actully wanted to particpate who're younger would be more than welcome.)

Double Club Night Report

Report back on our last two Club gaming nights. Easter was unusually quiet for us (i.e. we were busy but not frantic!) as many of the regulars were off elsewhere. Last Saturday however was back to normal with most of the gaming tables back in use.

The Flames of War table has grown a few feet longer (they will be fighting the entire Western Front at once if this keeps on ! ) and attracting more new players. Plenty of action on the WH40K table, and even a rare appearance of Lord of the Rings (which had so many figures on it it looked like the Final Battle was underway...).

Season 2 of the Call to Arms Warmachine tournament kicked off, and players got to try out our new marsh, watchtower and gorge scenery (thanks to everyone making new stuff!). Some fun scenarios tested our players strategic thinking as well as their tactical skills. Looking forward to the rest of the Season !

Well done for Richard, Kieran and Tim for scooping up the honours at our finale of Tour 1 of the Call to Arms official 2008 Warmachine tournament. Tim received the Warlord and Relentless medals, Richard the Strategist and Kieran the Eliminator. Due credit must go to Richard who has been fighting it out at the top of the League Ladder with Tim for most of the Tour. A great setting for Tour 2 with some friendly challenges already being issued!

Thanks to all the participants, even if you ended up at the other end of the ladder (there's always next Tour), and Symon for organisation/support for the League.

H All.

You might have noticed that the blog has been a bit quiet , well a few of us have been doing alot of stuff "behind the scenes" to get things orginised for this year so hopefully you will all have a great time at the club.

Right on with the report.

Another great night a the club with over 40 people turning up to play or visit, and new members coming throught the door at each session so i hope everyone had fun.

The 40K tables were busy with all the junior now arranging their own games up to 750 points so there were a few "doubles teams" put together to play 1500 point games. The "Training table" was also on the go with young Alex helping out with the teaching so thanks alot to him..that come especially from me buddy!!!

The Flames of War "D-Day landing" board is getting bigger and what i could see from the time i spent over that side of the club last night getting very popular...you just have to love those "little tanks"

Warmachine first Tour was at its end last night with a lot of hard fought games, thanks to Tim "Menoth" Morris for arranging this with the Support of Symon Rose from Runic Games. Hopefully we will get a report on the Winners and ranking soon on the forum so check that out if you have a chance.

And last but no means least "drum roll please"!!!! we have two new members to our committee..Hoorraahhhh!!

First i would like to welcome Paul James to the Committee as our rep for Flames of War and minature games systems. Paul and his son Kiren have been with the club from the very start and have become a great assest to the club ...and have become great friends as well.

And Garth Pickup who is going to be our "Hobby Specialist" and "Brush thrall". Garth hasnt been with the club that long but has become one of our "Main Cogs" in the Bury Wargamers Machine and has been helping out with the club T shirt designs and the Warmachine Tour....and has been posting like "a mad thing" on the forum with everyone else..so check out his "painting clinic" if you want some great tips.

So there we are, alot going on and a lot more to come so have fun everyone and see you all at the next meet.

Just a quick shout out/comment to anyone who views the blog, especially the juniors.

What the forum was created for, initially, was for you guys to give feedback to US. Although we are a club, we cant take the initiative all the time. The forum is there for all you, yes YOU reading this, to give us feedback and ideas. All sorts, ideas for events, what you do and don’t like, things you want to see etc, as well as interact with other club members, although we are all relatively local, we aren’t all a close knit group, it can also provide you with painting and modelling advice, etc etc. so just check the forum out.

And for any parents who wish to, feel free to sign up.

Saturday 9th Feb Club Report..They just keep coming!

Hi All.

Captain Stevo here...well what can we say about tonight...Brilliant evening all round, we open the doors and they just keep coming. Another fun packed evening was had by all and with the final count up this evening we had...wait for it....38 people pay to play with around 50 people attending the club in total. .........WOW!!!!

Junior Gamig Table was a hive of industrie with "Night Fight" being played with the option of a "deep strike unit" being brought in to add to their training. Once that was over the juniors orginised their own little games with a few heavy tanks..including a well painted Blue Baneblade...it just goes to show that given a little responsibility the juniors are quite capable of running themselves...well done guys im proud of you!

Warmachine keeps on growing with about 14 people playing tonight and more people interested in taking up the "Steam Gauntlet" of Privateer Press...looks like i will be making more boards for this and our "Sea Board" is gradually coming together with nearly 6 ships built and the core rules being thrashed out among everyone conserned.

Flames if War...well that has just exploded...with Andy asking "Could we please have another table to play on"...your wish is my command....it will be available for the next meet...you just have to love those little tanks !. D Day landing was the scenario this evening with some great terrain being used..loved the beach area and the landing craft guys...and the heavy gun emplacement..very "Guns of Naverone"

So it looks like Bury Wargamers is getting bigger... i signed up the 65th member tonight!! not bad conidering i was worried about getting 7 people throught to pay the hall hire....many thanks again to the scouts!!

Hi all..Captain Stevo here.

Well another great night was had by all at Bury Wargamers.....with a few new faces turning up which is always good news.

The junior table was in full swing with young Alex taking his first steps in his "Junior Instructor Training"...yes we have started to let the juniors govern themselves under the watchfull eyes of Brother Captain Jon....who after his great efforts on Saturday is due for promotion...or atleast a mention in despatches....Well done Jon & Alex

Warmachine has taken hold in a BIG WAY with many of our regulars turning up and some new faces from further a field... i think BWG is going to be the "place to go" for all things Warmachine in the future...well done Tim and Symon for their orginisation of the league.

Flames of War ...well i know where all the comfy chairs go to now and i can see why...the table was packed with lots of people watching the ensuing battle and a few newer people to the game joining in...thats what we like to see guys.

Finaly the forum has really taken off so if you havent had a look yet ......what have you being doing!!!! Have your say ...thats what its there for..we have modeling and painting tips, lots of question and answer threads, there is "Ask the Committee" so if you dont get a chance at the club do it on the forum...and finaly visit the "Green Room" and catch up with all the goings on non game related...and have a look at "Whats your tiple" as see how the story line is starting to unfold and see if you can work out who has visited "Wilson" in the bar.

BUT REMEMBER..all club news can only be found on the blog!!!

Howdy Guys

Okay, just to let Y'all know, In April sometime. When is being ironed out, We will be running a Foodmachine event. Which will be a Warmachine/Hordes tourney, currently the prize is unknown, But I've been hunting around for sooooomething good.

But to give a basic explanation, Foodmachine, is something where, for the price of a can of tinned food, you can break the rules of the game, and at the end, all donations are added up and donated to a local charity, which I'm also (when I get my voice back) working on finding.

And its, being announced now, so you can start saving up cans now, That way there can be more rules breaking. Speaking of which, the Foodmachine rules

Erm secondly, just a little shout out to something I've nearly twice over, Listened to almost the entire library of(Yes I am THAT boring) is Fellcalls Fellcalls, is a great tool, along with battlecollege for new and old Warmachine players alike, I find it makes good listening during painting/building time,for new players, I would say, that I found fellcalls a little more helpfull, than just reading text, But thats just me.

Saturday 12th Jan...New Freinds and New Records!

Hi guys.

Well i must say what an excellent start to 2008 at Bury Wargamers. It seems like the long rest over Christmas did everyone the world of good with the club nearly bursting at the seams with gaming...with 35 people "paying to play" over the evening and about 45 people in all attending...a new club record!!!!

The junior Gaming table under the watchfull eye of Brother Captain Jon was a hive of industrie as Alien Allience forces classed with the Heros of the Imperium on a recon mission, with lots of new "shinny" stuff on the table ........Seems like Santa was good to a few people? Though it was a little cramped with a few tables gone missing we managed to have a lot of fun.

Flames of War...well the name sais it all..... When i went over to have a look at how things were going there were a lot of tanks on fire with British Airsupport just being brought in by Paul....looking at all of the Anti Tank weapons that the German side was using i dont think they lasted very long.... i think just long enough to shout "Tally Ho Chaps"... Me thinks i would like to have a better look at this as it seems to be getting very popular....and alot of fun.

Warmachine Call to Arms.......We had 16 people partisipate in this..which is a record for Bury Wargamers..and as one visitor quoted " I have never seen so many people playing warmachine under one roof".....which i though was a great compliment for the club and everyone involved........We will post a battle report later on to cover what went on.

Allo Allo Allo!........We had our first visit from Pc 124 Kenneth Illsley...or Ken to his freinds. As you might know we have had a couple of visits later on in the evening from a few "Well Oiled Inderviduals " causing a bit of trouble so Ken dropped by to give us some advice and have a coffee and a chat. He was very impressed with everything we have done and will make a point of dropping in to see us when he is on his rounds.

And Finally...a presonal record was made last night...Rosie actually manged to finishing painting a model...now that dosent sound anything great right!!..WRONG.. Rosie is at Uni in London at the moment so dosent have a lot of time for her hobbie. So when she can she makes the drive up from there to her home the other side of Ipswich ,and then Ant and her drives over to us for the evening to see us...now that commitment..............A big Hoorraahhh for Rosie.

So thanks everyone for another great night and onward , upwards and forward in to 2008.

2008..Its going to be GREAT!!!!!!

Hi All.

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year....and now ready to get in to gaming for 2008!.

Right first thing...start date for the club is January 12th..just in case someone has forgotten, so i hope to see lots of you there...and if you got some "goodies" for Christmas and you want to show them of on the gaming tables that would be cool.....just have them undercoated if you havent had time to do a full paint job and lets see what you got!.

Junior Gaming Table... right guys lets get back to training...you will need your 500 point force ..or what ever you have close to that with all your bits and pieces..thats dice, tape measure, codex, crib sheets, written army list is a MUST...and of course your models....lets see if we can get some of you up to level 3 and on to playing 1500 point games on your own.

There will also be the introduction again of the "Training table" for anyone who has just started so we can go through the ground rules for playing 40k...thats for all ages..juniors and vets alike. ....PLEASE NOTE..This will be seperate from the main 40k large gaming area so we can concentrate...and NOT GET DISTURBED!!!!

Warmachine...well you have see the post for "Call to Arms"...so speak to "Mr Menoth"..that Tim if you dont know already and he will fill you in on all the details...and all going to plan Tim might well become are "Press Ganger" to Privateer press...if they get there "finger" out and get back in touch with him...im going to keep everything crossed just in case.

Flames of War and Warmaster..well theres no change there..always a pleasure to have you guys at the club ...so lets see some more of you getting interested in that side of the gaming.

and lastly... i would like some ideas from the Commitee and Members (including the parents) on how best to start spending the money we made last year?...lets make Bury Wargamers the "Flag Ship" for all thing gaming in Bury St Edmunds!!!!!...so get your thinking caps on...and put your comments on the blog...thats what its there for guys!

Final Club Report for 2007

Hi Guys.

Well what a great end to the year ..thanks to everyone for their support through out 2007, especially the committee , parents, and club members ...without you all there would be no club.

Right lets get down to last nights report.

The Junior table battle was well fought with the vets managing to stop the juniors convoy in its tracks...but they did managed to get halfway down our 18 foot mega gaming table. So well done to all who participated.

The draw as always was a big hit with everyone, thanks to Diane and Peter for selling all the draw tickets..and well done to everyone who won something. I hope you liked the selection of prizes we had on offer.

A big congrats and Horaahh to the following people who won the Bury Wargamers 2007 Sheilds.

Andy Soames...Bury Wargamers Veteran of the Year 2007.
Ashley Wiggins..Bury Wargamers Junior of the Year 2007.
Kiren James...Bury Wargamers Overall player of the Year 2007

LISTEN UP SOLDIER, HERE BE THE RULES:

1. You must have painted it yourself (so if a parent paints it, put it in the Veteran Demons)
2. A model can be from any games system
3. Its a Painting Competition not a conversion competition - converted figures can be entered but its how they are painted that matters
4. Models that were previous winners in BuryWargamers painting competitions cannot be entered again - nice try though!
5. Bases not judged, apart from how well they are painted
6. Judges decision is final (including moving models between categories) - and not everyone can win!
7. You can only win once in each category
8. Have fun!!

Hi Guys.

Well its nearly the end of the year for Bury Wargamers , but we havent finished yet. Saturday 22nd December will be our last meet of 2007 and it will be FREE ENTRY for everyone. So if you want to bring a freind or two that would be great..plus juniors can stay for as long as they want with their parents permission .

So things going on:

Painting Competition for all ages with awards for the best painted minatures / units but more of that coming on the blog in a few days for Adrian.

There will be a draw taking place around 6.30 - 7.00pm and draw tickets will be available from your committee members and there are some great prizes so dont miss out.

Plus

There will be food and drink for all curtsey of some of the parents , vet and committee members.

Junior Table mega battle....Convoy , run the gauntlet!!!

The vets thought it would be cool to have a vets vs junior came for the end of the year, so juniors you will need two tanks / vehicles and vets will need the same.
The scenareo is as follows...juniors will have a convoy of vehicles to get as many as they can from one end of the training board to the other..simple yes!!!..well the vets have the job of stopping them along the way....but things will be happening along the journey so beware both sides.

We will have the other tables available for Warmachine / Hordes as well as our Flames of War and Warmaster board.

And finaly there will be three sheilds awarded to vet and juniors who have shown an outstanding contribution to their chosen games system and club..awarded by your truly with input from the Committee / Vets.

So hope to see you all there..and those of you who cant make it.....I wish you and all your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year and see you all on 12th Jan 2008

Saturday 8th December Club Night Report

Hi All.

Well another success full night at Bury Wargamers. Again an amazing battle on the juniors table where the Alien Alliance annihilated the Hero's of the Imperium in their 300 - 400 point mega battle....with no heavy support...well done to all who played.

The Warmachine table was busy as well with visitors from Sudbury gaming club coming over, so thanks to Dave and his buddie who came over to play...you guys are welcome anytime. Also a few more juniors are getting interested in playing Warmachine which is really good as it broaden's their gaming horizons...it not all GW out there guys there is a lot of cool stuff made by other people.

Flames of War as always was a great battle with quite a few people sitting in on the game last night.

Also on a personal note it was nice to welcome a really good friend to the club in the shape of George Leech. George is an ex manager for GW and now runs a very good online store for GW merchandise so if you want to have a look a what on offer email him at WEAPON15@HOTMAIL.CO.UK ..and he was a great help with the juniors as his 40K knowledge is amazing......so many thanks to him.

Hi All.

Well its now December and hasnt this year flown by...just over 3 more weeks till Christmas ..not that i'm counting!!!..

Right plans for Saturday 8th December.

Juniors Table.

We have a 300 to 400 points battle going on..WITH NO HEAVY SUPPORT!!! So you need to think about what you put in to your mini army. It must be LEGAL..so you have to have an HQ and 2 troops...plus anything else you can fit in. Also i would like to see some army list guys!!!!...so we know what you are fielding is points perfect.

Vets.

Well you guys run yourselves really..... so i guess it will be a "sprinkling" of 40K with a "dash" of Flames of War....served up on a great big plate of WARMACHINE......Hoorahhh!!!

Seriously..thanks guys for making things so easy for me this year when i've been teaching the juniors ...its very much appreciated!!!

Oh and just one thing........any ideas about what else you would like to do on the 22nd..drop me a line and lets see what else we can get up to!!

Welcome to our New Committee members

Well things are really on the move at the club at the moment. Some of you might have noticed that Stuart hasn't been to the club lately...well Stu's does at lot of work with the Sea Cadets and has found that he cant give the club the commitment he should so he has decided to step down. I personally would like to thank Stuart for all his help as he was there from the start . BUT...things change and people move on so.......with great pleasure i would like to announce the newest members to our committee........"drum roll please".

Tim Morris... Tim has been a great help behind the scenes at the club and has become our "specialist" when it comes to all thing Warmachine and he did a great job with the tournament. So he will be our Privateer Press / Alternative games specialist.

Also.

Jon Swift.... Jon has been helping me out with the junior table for quite a while and both his sons are keen and active members of our club. Jon has had some experience with committee's and i think he will be a great asset to the future of the club.....So Jon will be with me around the Junior table helping out and helping guide the club forward. Jon will be our second parent representative on the "Club floor".......We already have Diane Holder who does an amazing job taking over the desk from me when its time to teach and keeping an "eagle eye " on whats happening ( Like the little "monkey" who tried to leave on Saturday night with one of our tape measures).

So i hope you will all be as happy as i am to have them on the committee and give them the help and respect as you all have to me.

Saturday 24th Club night report.

Hi Guys.

Well what a busy evening we had on Saturday night. Well done to all the juniors who turned up to play in the "Junior table battle". As exspected the "Hero's of the Imperium" won...but only just 7 games to 5....considering there was a lot and i mean A LOT of armour on the table the "Alien Allience" did really well.

Also we had our first Warmachine tournament run by Tim "Menoth" Morris and from what i hear from competitors and spectators alike it was a great success. Tim had arranged all the prizes with Symon from Runic Games who came along with his laptop and helped keep score....and brought loads of "goodies" for us to buy!

We had 12 people play and we even had people turn up from London..who managed to win first and second places, but no one minded as they were really great guys to play against. We will be doing more tournaments in 2008 and the visitors from London are interested in doing more tournaments their end......and yes we will be going to represent Bury Wargamers.

Garth brought his camera along so we should have some really neat pictures to put up on the gallery......and from the models i saw painted up on the tables they should look really cool.

So i hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

You just need to bring tanks, tanks..oh yes and MORE TANKS.

There will be a mission for the Alien Alliance to win their games...so its just not kill everything on foot with our big tanks......its going to be loads of fun...oh and i will be bringing air support again..so watch the skys!!!

Juniors Tank Battle Report.

Hi all.

I thought i would just add a battle report from last night so here goes.

The Alien alliance had laid siege to the Adeptus Mechanicus home world and a small defence force had been left to protect the Titan legion.... " Following report was found after the battle"....Click " Sir the advancing enemy forces have breached the outer gates....we need back-up now!!!!... i can see something coming through the main gateway.....Oh by the God Emperors throne..They have a......" Click...Report ends suddenly.

The Enemy forces had mustered the support of the Chaos horde and had brought a blasphemy of awesome proportion... A chaos Baneblade.... " Inform the Legion, they maybe be needed before this day is through"..."Send in the main Defence force first and call for Air support" . The valiant forces of the Adeptus Astartes held fast but the combined firepower of the Baneblade and additional heavy armour shredded their valiant effort.

Above the battle the first wave of Aircover flew in an airstrike...the Imperial Thunderbolts of the "Sky Nights Fighter Wing"...... Attack recording taken on initial attack run ...Click " Have overflown Titan Legion, scanners indicate the holy engines of the Emperor are powering up main turbines"..." i am starting attack run now control"....click "Wait there is something to my left..down in the ruins"..... warning runes flash in the cockpit.."Taking evasive action, i have ground fire".."have taken multiple hits"..."going down, i repeat going down". Unknow to all a Tau recon unit had made its way through undetected and had launch a smart missile salvo at the incoming aircraft...all for the greater good.

Finally the titan Legion had got up to full combat speed and had moved out of their compound..and what a sight...4 Warhound titans in full battle livery..stepping over the ruins as if they were not there....then they raised there guns to full high and death spew forth across the city.... The Baneblade took most hits but its armour held fast...not so lucky were the Tau Recon forces who had been spotted by the titans..." Titan Maxamillion here, spotted tracer fire from Tau insurgence...returning fire...Gun control..Fire Vulcan Mega Bolter..Fire Plasma Blast Gun..send them to hell my brothers"....The guns spoke and the Tau forces were sent to oblivion.

A flight of "Ork Fighta Bommers" had spotted the smoke and gone to investigate.."Hurr hurr..them humies are having a scrap lads..lets go and crash dat party"...The scream of over heated engines filled the air as the first plane flew in..he must have been totaly mad as he came through the gateway and just missed the Baneblade. Missiles flew from the underneath of its wings hitting a titan...and then kept going straight...crashing in to its main carapace, ripping one of it guns off.....click "Imperial control to all forces, be advised we have ork kamakazi's coming in!!... " Thanks control, but you are a bit to late..one of the bugs has just taken out my right gun port"...Titan legion, Warhound Leonartus here.....Move to battle formation Gamma two six zero"..form battle line and take out the next thing that come over that gate way".."Warhound Arragorn, Maxamilion, Ethanium all reporting positive response sir"

As the battle raged on and more Ork planes came through to meet their death at the hands of the titan Legion and Adaptus Astartes....a valiant attack run by the wing Commander of the Sky Knights put more damage on to the Baneblade and was rewarded by being sent plummenting to the ground in flames....finally the Baneblade ground to a halt..a smouldering wreck of twisted metal...with the lost of the Biggest Tank the chaos forces fled back through the gate..and back to the warp. Click " Imperial Battle barge Divine Deliverance reporting all chaos and xenos forces have left the city...all praise the emperor"........the remaining defence forces looked out across the once benevolent city..."We were lucky this day gentlemen, with the forces of chaos now using our most holy weapons against us it is only a matter of time tillthis city falls"........a click of a hammer could be hear behind..then a pistol fired!!!...The Commander fell to the floor dead....."We will stand and if we have to we will all die to defend this city.. i will not hear talk of defeat"....Commissar Stevo holsters his pistol, pulls his grey weathered trenchcoat back round his body and walks slowly away through the ruins..." We will never give up...we will never surrender..the Emperor wills it!"

Thanks to all who played last night..especially Connor and his Baneblade, Ashley, whos Hammerhead took the combined fire power of 4 Titans..more than once..and Alex who helped out with the rules for the Titans..well done to all

Saturday 10th November "Mega Tank Battle."

Hi Guys.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the Mega Tank Batlte is going on this Saturday night on the juniors table. I gave them a choice on what they would like to do and thats what they all voted on.....!!!

Rules are as follows:

You must have a tank (The name of the battle gives that away!!), but you can bring more than one ,but if we have to many on the board and it is going to slow the game down i will ask to have some removed...thats for the people who bring to many of their own.....but we will see how many turn up before we start.

You will get kill points for the front armour of the tank you destroy...so front armour 14 , you get 14 kill points...you will be given sheets to record your kills and i will check them...so no one putting " 1 rhino killed = 14 kill points", because thats not its front armour value..is it!!

Those of you who do not own any armour..and i know who does and who dosen't, dont worry as i will be bringing you something to use...and its going to be really cool.......PLUS extra kill points if you can take down the Chaos Baneblade that seemed indestructable the last time it was on the boards....but remember the gold rule...its all about... HAVING FUN!!!

Club night report

Slightly overdue report from the last Club night. Very busy again, both for the juniors and veterans. Training table saw plenty of action. Warmachine frenzy is spreading with about a dozen people indulging in some metal mayhem. This is great news for our upcoming tournament (see link). And not to forget our happy chaps in the corner continuing with their Flames of War and Warmaster battles.

Garth brought his camera along (much better than mine!). Here's a beauty of a Deathjack (or is it a beast of a Deathjack!). This photo could have so easily come from No Quarter magazine or Privateer Press.

Ludicrus 2008 - East Anglia's premier game festival

Here's another date for your diary - Ludicrus 2008 will be taking place on the weekend of 27th/28th September 2008. Yes I know that's a long way off, but it pays to be prepared!

Warmachine Tournament "Mangled Metal"

Hi All.

On Novenber 24th we will be running a 350 point "Mangled Metal" Tournament. This will be a Single non-epic Warcaster and its Warjacks.....no troops! Prizes will be awarded for First ,Second and Third place.

Registration starts for the tournament at 6:20pm and play will begin at 6:45 - 7:00pm. There will be a £3 charge for playing at the club.

So Juniors will stop at 6pm so we can get set up but anyone is welcome to come and play or watch, you DONT have to be a member to participate.

Thanks to Tim "Menoth" Morris for orginising this and arranging the prizes.....now lets see some metal getting mangled...and "PLAY LIKE YOU'VE GOT A PAIR!!!"

Hi Guys.

Here are the dates for the Bury Wargamers Club meets for the rest of the year.

October 13th , 27th , November 10th, 24th, December 8th, 22nd.

Hope you all had a great time at the Birthday Bash, and thanks to everyone who turned up and helped out. If anyone has any ideas on how to make the next even better let me or any of the Committee have your ideas and we will look in to them........now all i have to do now is get ready for the next big thing which is Apocalypse.....looking at the Book its going to be awsom!!!

I will bring it along to the next meet so you all can have a look!!!.....oh and before anyone asks yes you can field a Titan Legion at 3000 point, its just 4 Warhounds at 750 points each and they can choose any of the weapon options at no extra cost.

So if you havent thought about using them you might want to think again, BUT as it was shown on Saturday they dont like multiple lasannon fire.....because they go BANG!!!

1st Birthday Celebrations and Open Day

What a blast we had! Eleven hours of gaming, BBQ food, sandwiches and cake. Now the dust has settled its time for a report. Warhammer 40k, Warmachine, Flames of War, Warmaster - plus "Its all gone Starship Troopers" and"Beat Steve's Titan". Now thats a lot of games.

Painting competition results - Veterans

And now to the Veterans competition. Some truly excellent examples of painting here -
Golden Demon: Ultramarines Commander - Ashley B
Silver Demon: Bretonian Knight by Gavin C
Bronze Demon: Carnifex by Dennis L
Ashley's Ultramarine really smashed the judges. Everything about it shouts quality, from the multiple highlights and blends, the detail (check out the 'text' on the purity seals) and hand painted symbols. In fact the picture does not do it justice - could we have our very own GW Golden Demon winner of the future?

Gav's mounted Knight is also crisply painted, and carried off the heraldry scheme well. The horse also has great character. Dennis's Carnifex has a strong paint scheme and the judges were impressed by how 'organic' it looked. They also commented on how hard it is to successfully paint a convincing white colour scheme.

Our first Birthday celebrations included the inaugural Burywargamers 'Golden Demon' painting competition. Thanks to Geoff for painting up some bronze, silver and gold trophies.

The judges were impressed by the standard being reached by our Juniors. They were particularly impressed with the 'crisp' painting style on the Imperial Guard, the attention to detail, and its face with lots of character. They again liked the neatness on the Etheral and the highlighting of the cloak. Finally with the Autarch they liked the rather sinister red, black and silver colour choice, and felt the red eyes carried the theme through well.

Its all gone 'Starship Troopers'...

Take two lonely squads of Stormtroopers, drop them into a bunker on a bug infested planet, unlock the ammo containers, and it can only mean one thing...its all gone Starship Troopers!

Wave after wave of scuttling, leaping, rending bugs launched themselves at the bunker, and died in their thousands (well, hundreds actually). Under the expert control of Hivemind Geoff many a stormtrooper met a grisly end. However, almost as fast as each Stormtroopers commander was killed, another took his place.

At the end of the day the Tyranid menace was beaten off (at least for this day) and the Imperial Guard was left count the cost. In the dispatches back to high command one officer's heroism stood above the rest - Matthew T. Under his watch the Stormtroopers completely obliterated the Tyranid assault wave without loss, except for brave Matthew himself who blew up when his plasma pistol overheated! In gratitude a Carnifex captured in the battle has been sent to his relatives (hope they read the instructions on the box about feeding...)

Bury Wargamers Birthday Bash September 29th

Just to remind everyone that the Big Birthday Bash is on at the club the 29th September...thats right Bury Wargamers is 1 year old!!!

So to celebrate this we are running a special FREE open session from 12pm to 4pm for anyone to come and look at what we do ... Adults and children are all welcome.

The events will be:

"Take down Stevo's Titan"..see if you have the metal to take on a Warhound and survive!

"Its all gone Starship Troopers!"..20 Imperial Guard in a bunker trying to kill the most Bugs by turn six..the winner with the most kills gets a Carnafex!!!!

We have a Warmachine demo table and Flames of War so if you fancy trying something new and really cool come and have a look...PLUS an open table where you can bring along your own models and battle anyone... Members and non members welcome!!

If you feel hungry the Bury 1st Scout Group will be running a BBQ with all the money being made being donated to them by Bury Wargamers (We are buying the food for them to cook and sell!!!)

We will also have a few kits for sale so if you wanted to get started on a new army or fancy another addition to add to your exsisting one come and see what we have

So if you fancy having a look come and see us..and remember if you are under 16 YOU CAN COME IN BY YOURSELVES for the 4 hours we are open to the public...anyone wanting to stay on and have a look at the club in all its glory must be accompanyed by and adult from 4pm onwards

The Good The Bad and the Ugly!!! .15/09/07

Another great night at Bury Wargamers Club:

The GOOD.

Good to see that the scouts have nearly finished refurbishing their HQ and its going to look great. GOOD to see a great turn out from Juniors and Veterans and thanks to everyone who helped out on Saturday night.GOOD to see some new faces at the club, at the moment we have 54 members which is great considering we have only been going for just under a year.

The BAD.

Bad news about the Bury Free Press not turning up to do a piece on the club, especially as they were very keen to look at what we do. BAD luck to everyone who got a bit of "spanking" in the Tank Battle, just remember is all about learning to play the game and having fun.

AND

The UGLY.
Thanks to everyone who helped to run the Tank Battle on Saturday night, it could have got very ugly if we didnt have people to step in to help out when we are short handed as a few of our juniors get a bit "Excited" when they start playing and it is very easy to loose focus on what is trying to be achieved that evening.

So well done to everyone , Juniors , veterans and parents alike who made it another fun evening as always at Bury Wargamers

Club Night Report from 1st September

Bit overdue but here's a brief round up from the last Club Night. Another busy turnout - you can see the packed Juniors Training Table in the background above. I should have noted down what everyone was up to, but I think we had games of WH40k, Warmachine and Warmaster. My Khador battle group certainly got a good tonking from Steve's Cygnar, but have since knocked out their dents and will be back for more!

The Scouts are making slow progress on the DIY improvements so it was temporary kitchen again, but hope this will be completed soon.

Tank Battle for the 15th September.

Just a litte reminder that on Saturday we will be doing the Mega Tank Battle with the juniors on the large training table, so if you have anything that has an armour value..or for those who's army has no tanks (E.G Nids) bring along a Tank Killing unit as i have some thing special for you to do on the night. Also anyone who is new to the club and has not got as far as buying some heavy support dont worry as i am sure there will be some spare tanks...or even a Warhound Titan available to use.

We will also be having a visit from the Bury Free Press so bring along everything you need to use on the night as i want us to look as professional as possible......that means dice / Tape measures , Codexs , crib sheets and dont forget your MODELS!!!..... plus above all please BEHAVE.... you know who you are and the emperors servents will be watching you and quick justice will be delt out with Bolter and Chain Sword ..... so you have been warned.

And remember the gold rule.. its all about having FUN .

New Committee Member joins the ranks.

Hi All, Captain Stevo here.

Well it was bound to happen but i am please to announce a new member to the Bury Wargamers Committee....so with out further ado may i welcome ...(Drum roll please!!!)
Adrian Cannard...Hoorraahh!! who is are new IT/Communications Officer.. in general terms this blog is all down to Adrian's hard work, and what an excellent job he has done so far. Also Adrian will be working closely with myself and the other members of the committee to design new boards and get new ideas so the club is always having new things to do and try out.

Club Night roundup

Another great club night, with Warmachine, WH40k, Flames of War and Warmaster all being played. Conditions were a bit unusual as the Scout Hut was having it's toilets and kitchen area replaced, and the piles of builders materials gave a real urban rubble setting! Still, nice new facilities from now on!

Arming for Apocalypse

St Edmunds Forgeworld is in full scale production for the forthcoming Apocalypse...

Just check out our growing force of Warhound Titans. Here are three of the five completed so far, with a Forgeworld Chaos Warhound rumoured to be lurching onto the battlefield sometime soon.

If you have been out of the GW gaming scene for a little while (with piles of models 'resting' in your loft) what better time to return to the fray than in some mega-battles at the club? Apocalypse coming to the club this Autumn!

Hi Guys, Captain Stevo here.

Firstly may i say thanks to Adrian for setting up the blog its awsom and now i can put on my little bits and pieces for the club....... Here goes.
Dates for meets in September are as follows: 1st , 15th and the 29th so put them in your diary!
Also dont forget it is our first Club Birthday in September so stay tuned for more info.
Lastly its Gamesday in September so if you are looking to go dont forget you can get your tickets online at the GW Websits, or at any GW Store..and its just worth asking at Toymaster in Bury if they are going to sell any.... i will try and pop in to see them before the meet this Saturday and find out.

Don't forget this Saturday is Club Night.

Juniors - your task this week is to bring your written 500pt army list for Captain Stevo. Get scribbling. Try and make it half readable, not something that looks like a page ripped from the Nurgle section of the Liber Chaotica (and no green ink, it reminds Captain Stevo of ork skin and gets him reaching for his Bolter!)

No extra-special events planned (i think?), just the usual mayhem and battles. Veterans will be up to their usual mix of WH40k and Warmachine gaming, plus anything else that takes their fancy.

Apocalypse warm-up

The release of the Apocalypse expansion looks to be the next big thing (literally!) to take hold of us gamers. Thought I would post up a memory from our own little apocalypse earlier this summer...photo is of some of our juniors preparing for the Imperium vs. Xenos all-in tank battle. The Imperium came in force with about 27 vehicles, whilst the Xenos went for quality (!) over quantity with about 18 vehicles. By the end of the frantic evening the place was littered with wrecks (no not the veteran gamers) with the last Eldar falcons pinned down by an advancing column of Imperial tanks. The Imperium had taken more losses, but still outnumbered the Xenos, so claimed the victory. Now, that's what being in a wargames club is all about!

Enough chatter, just show me the games!

We play tabletop war games like Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Warmachine, Hordes Primal, Flames of War, Warmaster and Lord of the Rings. We also play card games such as Yugiho and Warcraft.

We are quite relaxed in our painting rules, models must be undercoated, however it would be nice to see a bi-weekly improvement. Please be sensible and don’t bring things in like two lascannon’s stuck to a bottle to represent a landraider (it has been done). We are happy to see weird and wacky conversions and try experimental rules.

We meet mostly every other Saturday unless the venue is not available (check out our fancy calendar and the Forum for updates)

From 3pm to 10pm is gaming time, gamers under 16 (must be accompanied by adult, parent or guardian). Although most of us come as early as we can because we just love gaming!

The club runs on a “Play & Pay” basis where £3 goes towards the cost of the hall, which the Bury 1st Scouts have allowed us to use. Any extra goes into the making of scenery and boards etc. Your first two gaming sessions are free, so don't be shy give us a road-test...

We meet in the Bury 1st Scout Hut, which is a lot more substantial than it sounds! Its on the right of the Greengage pub on Tollgate Lane. Parking is available on the street (not in the pub car park sorry!)

Gaming Club facilities

The club has various boards available from 4ft x 4ft to our massive 4ft x 12 ft ! Usually we have five main boards set up all with scenery provided. We have tea and coffee facilities, toilets, comfy chairs for parents, and tables for hobby building and painting.
